"I can't meet up with you and your friends for dinner tonight, I forgot I have an appointment," she said. "No problem, you know where we are going if anything comes up," he said in return.
She picked up her bag, and gave him a kiss goodbye. She fumbled around for her keys as she walked away, and when she found them, stuck them in her mouth so she could close the bag back up.
She started to drive toward the doctors office. She discovered that the radio had nothing to offer, as she blared through all of her favorite stations. At a red light, she searched for her CD case, only to find her daily planner there as well.
I forget...is my appointment at 3:30 or 4:00? she thought. She opened it up, glancing back and forth from the pages to the red light. "Oh shit...my appointment isn't this week...it's next week...pfff...that's real smooth..." She stopped for a minute realizing that she was talking outloud, and looked at the cars beside her. Ok if anyone just saw that they're going to think I'm crazy...
She threw the planner in the back seat and made a U-turn. At the next light she threw in a CD, and it made her in a much better mood. At least now I can go to dinner, she thought, Yah, it'll be great to surprise him and his friends...
She finally made it to the restaurant and parked her car. The place was packed, so she made her way into one of the side entrances. She found the table consisting of his friends, but he was nowhere to be found. When she approached the table, everyone kind of stopped, and gave her a questionable face.
"Hey, did he not show up or something?" she asked. "No he did...he just stepped outside for a minute to say goodbye to someone." She wondered why they were acting so weird, but thought nothing of it until she stepped outside.
It was one of the worst things she had ever seen. The emotion was slow, but quick in change. She couldn't believe it...even denied seeing it, only to have this rush of hurt and anger fill her whole system. He was kissing another woman.
She just stood there as this all sunk in. A rush of shock hit his face as he glanced up and saw her standing there, mouth ajar. He pushed the woman away, and searched for something to say to her. The woman was confused as she turned around and saw her standing there, horrified.
"Oh...so this is the girlfriend..." she said. If she wasn't feeling shitty enough, the fact that both of them were fully aware of what they were doing stabbed her a little more. The rage was in control now, and it was time to make the decision to act or walk away before things escalated.
Unfortunatly she didn't want to go back inside to face what his friends already knew, but if that was the case she'd have to walk by them to get to her car. Her eyes darted all over the place as she thought of how to deal with this unexpected news.
"I...I know this looks bad...but-"
"Who is she?"
"Who are you?"
She glared at the woman, who was taken by surprise by the broken silence. "I'm his ex...and for what it's worth he didn't know I was going to be here. We got to talking and-" "And what?" she interupted. "And...we might start talking again..." she glanced at him in a flirty manner but he ignored her, fully aware now of what he had done.
She knew after hearing this that it was enough. Her mind was all over the place as she searched for some sort of reasoning behind it all. Why would he do this? Why would he throw it all away? Yes, the questions had already begun.
She decided to walk near the street to avoid getting any closer to him. She was completely discusted with the whole scenario and just wanted to go home. "Hey! Where are you going?" he yelled to her. She never understood questions like that, because she knew he knew she wasn't going to answer. She pulled her jacket closer as if she were trying to dissapear.
He went to chase after her and the woman followed. She got a little ways down the sidewalk only to hear him yell, "Wait! Please!" She stopped reluctantly, and fixed her hair as the wind blew it around. She folded her arms, and waited for him to say whatever it was that he came up with.
Yet before anything could be said, the woman started up first, "Look, what's done is done...I'm sorry it had to be this way..." The woman approached her as she spoke, but she stood her ground getting increasingly irritated at the fact that she was getting closer. As the woman continued to ramble about how she just needed to move on, she noticed a car comming down the road. It wasn't driving right, and at the last second swerved right at the woman.
In an instinct she pushed her out of the way, and took some of the hit from the vehicle. Her body turned into a rag doll as it rolled along the grass beside the sidewalk. It all happened so fast, but things started to go in slow motion for her. She was losing focus, until she started to hear her boyfriend speak.
"Oh my God are you ok? Hey!...Hey...hey are you alright? You awake? C'mon, say something..." She tried to turn her head but stopped and flinched. She just looked straight up in the air and said, "Please stop yelling at me..." He laughed nervously as his whole body shook from the adrenaline. He wanted to hold her, yet didn't want to move her in fear of injuries. The man in the car stumbled out, and sat down on the curb in shock. It was obvious that he wasn't altogether, but the cause wasn't obvious.
He glanced back over to the woman, who was ok accept for the scrapes on her hands. The woman just watched silently, still confused as to why she would save her.
"Do you love her?" she asked. He just looked at her with sad eyes, so she continued. "I hope you love her, because I saved her for you..." The bleeding was more prominent now, but it didn't seem to bother her. He just remainded silent as she closed her eyes, happy to hear the sounds of an ambulance that had finally arrived.
